You might be the type to see a spider and shriek in terror, but for some the spider is a symbol of art and creativity. In Navajo legend, it was Spiderwoman who taught the people how to weave. This spider textile was made to honor the supernatural creative spirit. It inspired some pretty royal framing. Hanah used her “spidey’ design sense to weave together this silk mat and custom corner frame with a perfect red dot motif.

Some facts about spiders that I learned from seeing this amazing tapestry on display at the Museum of Natural History in NYC.

By weight, the silk from a spider is stonger than steel.

Golden Orb spider webs in Madagascar can be large enough to span a one-lane road.

People developed methods to weave using spider fibers 100 years ago.

When people see our glitter covered frames, they often ask “What in the world would you frame in that?”.

We’ve framed lots of things with glitter, including but not limited to:

diplomas, children’s masterpieces, pet photos, picasso prints, political campaign memorabilia, mirrors, folk art and fine art…

When we found these frames in Italy, I considered it cutting edge bringing glitter into the fine art world, but leave it to Martha Stewart to take it to the next level. Did you know there is an entire section of the Martha Stewart website devoted to glitter crafts??

The project that really set off my glitter sensors is “glitter painting“. It’s a process invented by Martha Stewart and her crafty elves wherein you upload a photo to her site and a version is returned to you which is ready to basically “glitter by number”.

I have an idea what my family might be getting for Christmas…

Watch Martha demonstrating the technique on the Jay Leno show. Make your own and bring it to us for framing!!

A high-end frame company cleaned out their warehouse and sent us boxes and boxes of frames. It’s like Christmas come early for Jenny (Vice-president of Photo Frames). She’s in charge of unpacking all the boxes and keeping the shelves filled. She has no idea what frames they sent us and each box is different. The frames in the photo above would normally sell for $40 to $100 but you can have them for $15 to $40! While supplies last….
